Back to school classroom information

Parent Communication

·       In our classroom students will fill out a weekly new sheet, this will be sent home on Fridays. Along with our news sheet, I also have a classroom blog. I will post pictures of happenings in our classroom along with important dates that will also be included in our weekly news sheet. Each Friday students will bring home their Friday baggie. Please return the baggie to school each Monday. To find our classroom blog you should go to http://thirdgradeschnoor.blogspot.com.  If you ever have any questions, concerns, or are wondering why something is happening, please feel free to call or email me anytime during the school year.

Spelling

·       New spelling lists will go home on Mondays. Students will take a pretest on Fridays to determine their new list for the following week. Post-tests will be taken on Fridays.

Homework

  • Students will have homework each week. Homework will come home on Mondays, and needs to be returned to school on Fridays. Please check the homework folder every Monday. There will always be spelling homework for the week. Additionally, part of your child's homework is to read 15 to 20 minutes several nights a week, if possible. Please help make a special time and place for this to happen. Sometimes there will be special assignments and math homework. Usually there will not be homework on weekends.

  • The homework is self-paced, so your child can choose to do comfortable amounts as needed, and this should help when you have those busy family nights where school is not on the menu. If you notice that your child is not able to do an assignment on his or her own, please write a note to me on the assignment.  I will contact you if your child is falling behind or turning in unfinished work. Outside of reading, homework should never exceed 20 minutes each night. It is meant as practice and to help build responsibility for homework as your child enters upper elementary.

  • From time to time there might be math homework as well, depending on the skill we are learning.

After School Plans

·       If your child’s usual end of the day plan happens to be different on a particular day, please send a note or call the elementary office. (i.e. riding the bus home with a friend).

Snack (optional)
  • Third graders will eat lunch from 12:40-1:00 each day, this is a long time after most students have eaten breakfast. Students in our classroom will be allowed to bring an individual snack to be eaten in the morning. This snack is optional and will not be provided by the school.

Other Information

  • P.B.I.S. is our “positive behavior” system being implemented building-wide.  As the year begins, every student will know about expected behaviors in all common areas of the school.  Listen for comments from your child.  They may be recognized with a “ticket” as they show positive behaviors that will be celebrated!
