Hello! I hope
you’ve all had a good week. We’ve had a busy week in third grade. Due to the large
number of students out ill this week, I’ve extended the recipe due date to
Monday, January 16. Thank you for
helping your child find a recipe for our class project. We appreciate it!
Upcoming Dates:
January 16- Last call for
recipes (see below)
January 20- No School
January 27- Spelling Bee
(for those that signed up)

Our
third grade Journeys stories this week were Ramona
Quimby, Age 8 and Imagine a Recipe. One of the skills we worked on was
reviewing steps in order. For example, “first they mixed the batter and then
they rolled out the dough”…etc.
As
an added bonus, we’d like to create a class recipe book. You and your child may
find a favorite recipe, holiday recipe or any other recipe that is a family
favorite (main dish, appetizer, soup, cookie, dessert, etc.)
Please
send a copy of the recipe to school
with your child or email a copy to
me at aschnoor@mountvernon.k12.ia.us by
Monday, January 16. We will design, organize, illustrate, and publish a
class recipe book.
We’ll
all enjoy the process and the new
recipes!
Thank you for your help!
This week we also did a little cooking to go along with our cooking themed Journeys stories. We made Creamy Crockpot Hot Chocolate. It was a big hit! I thought I'd share the recipe with you all, it was very chocolatey!
Creamy Crockpot Hot Cocoa
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups whipping cream
- 1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 6 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups of chocolate chips (milk chocolate OR semi-sweet depending on how sweet you like it)
Instructions
- Stir together the whipping cream, milk, vanilla, and chocolate chips in a crockpot.
- Cover and cook on low for 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until mixture is hot and chocolate chips are melted. Stir again before serving. Garnish as desired, we used mini marshmallows.
